An Opportunity for You

There are many ways that you can support Heron Habitat Helpers. A gift of time, talent or funds will help HHH advance its efforts to restore and enhance Kiwanis Ravine. Because HHH is an all-volunteer, non-profit group, all monetary contributions directly support conservation initiatives, educational programs and outreach efforts.

HHH is an IRS 501(c)(3) organization under the umbrella of the Associated Recreational Council (ARC)(Bill Keller, Executive Director), 100 Dexter Avenue North, Seattle, WA 98109-5102, 206-684-7083, bill.keller@seattle.gov, www.arc.org, IRS #51-0170717.

You can send monetary contributions to:

Heron Habitat Helpers
P. O. Box 99815
Seattle, WA. 98139-0815

We need additional volunteers to assist with:

  • Volunteer Coordinator - Contact established Seattle organizations to recruit volunteers for HHH work parties (approx.5-8 parties a year).
  • Public Relations - Be the "go to" person for contacting local publications and community organizations telling them of HHH's accomplishments and activities.
  • Facilitate Heron Watching - We need someone to spearhead the setting up of equipment at the Discovery Park Visitor Center to view the nesting herons on our website.
  • Getting Your Hands Dirty - Feel connected to the earth and your community working with the Restoration Committee in preserving and enhancing Kiwanis Ravine during one of HHH's work parties. Come to one or all.
  • Visualize and Staff SeaFair table - We people to help conceive a display table at the annual Magnolia SeaFair event and to help staff that table. Get to work with Henrietta the Heron!
  • Assist Outreach Committee in trying to improve Seattle's tree ordinance and be a "watchdog" for protecting the herons.
  • Historian - Interview older Kiwanis neighbors and compile early Kiwanis history.
  • Inventory - Plan and conduct a tree inventory in the 500' GBH buffer area.

Join a committee!

Illegal Dumping!

It is illegal to dump yard waste, or any other material, in city ravines and parks. Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) is in charge of dumping complaints, and they would like to hear about any dumping in Kiwanis Ravine. The phone number is 206-684-7587, or you can do it online at http://web1.seattle.gov/spu/CRMIQ/ContactSPU.aspx.
