The Commodore Shore site travels along the shoreline of Salmon Bay from the BNSF railroad bridge heading north. This site was a tangle of blackberry. Restoration began in 2017 with EarthCorps removing the blackberry, mulching, and prepping the area for planting the following year. In 2018, we were lucky to have a few large volunteer groups work with us to plant a native habitat for local wildlife, plants with diverse root profiles for stabilizing the bluff, and that can filter the run off from Commodore Way before it enters Salmon Bay. We also added overhanging plants to provide nutrients and shade protection for young salmon.
