The 2019 Heron Season Begins
As of mid-December, herons are slowly returning to the Ballard Locks, perched in their favorite deodar cedar tree. It is typically in February that they select a mate and a nest. They will rebuild existing nests, or start from scratch, often taking twigs from old nests. It’s an exciting time!
If you would like to get involved with HHH and learn more about herons, we’d love to hear from you! We have many opportunities such as habitat restoration, heron colony monitoring, assistance with our website, membership and fundraising. We’re happy to work within your schedule and with any amount of time you have to offer.
We’re a nice, friendly bunch. Contact us at [email protected] to learn more!
